This two-day trek takes you through beautiful landscapes and picturesque villages of various tribes. You walk, make a ride on an elephant and sail on a bamboo raft. The circumstances are somewhat primitive, but for the overnight stay, beds and mosquito nets are provided. You'll need sleeping bags and backpacks for the trip but there is also the possibility of hiring them there. Luggage that you don't need during the trek, can be stored at our hotel in Chiang Mai. A towel is handy. During the hike you carry yourself the things that you need.
Please specify at the time of booking whether you want to go along with this trek. Note: If there are only 1 to 4 participants for this optional hike, it will be performed on a 'join in' basis. That means that other people (outside your group) can participate in the excursion. From 5 participants +, you will have your 'own' group.
First walking day, Chiang Mai - Karen village: Between 09:00 and 09:15 you'll be picked up from your hotel by pick-up truck . The ' back to basics' adventure begins! In the village of Mae Malai you stop at the local market, where your guide does some last minute shopping before dinner. Continue to the Mork Fah waterfall, here you can swim and relax. We use a local restaurant to take lunch, then continue to drive to the Pong Deuad hot springs for a short stop. Here starts the trek. You walk for about four hours over the wooded hills and rice paddies. After arriving in a village of the Karen minority, where you overnight, you can explore the village and its surrounding area. Your guide focuses on the preparation of a tasty but simple dinner. After dinner it's time for a social gathering with stories, jokes and dance around the campfire.
Included meals are lunch and dinner today.
Second walking day, Karen village - Chiang Mai: Probably you will wake up to the noise of the village roosters! Rise early and experience the first happenings within the village. After breakfast we say goodbye to your hosts and continue the trek. You walk in about an hour to an elephant camp. Take your place on a giant grey and then ride for about an hour to a village of the Red Lahu minority. Once there, you say goodbye to your elephant and his mahout (trainer). On the river lie the bamboo rafts already waiting for you (depending on the water!). You make a leisurely rafting trip of approximately two hours to Sob Kai, a village of the Shan minority. Here you have lunch before the pickup truck drives you back to Chiang Mai. At around 17:00 you'll be back at your hotel.
