Excursions

For some trips, it is possible to purchase an excursion package in advance of travel. This allows you to be assured of your participation in the main excursions. If the minimum number of participants in a tour package is not met, you will receive a refund and then you can easily purchase these excursions ‘on the spot’. If this trip offers an excursion package, you can see below which excursions are included in the package. If no package for your trip is displayed below then you have the option of booking the separate excursions on the spot.

Individual excursions
During your trip it is possible to participate in several individual excursions. These will be offered to you by the tour leader and you will book them through him/her. These excursions are optional and you will need to pay for them out of your pocket money. The cost of these trips is taken into account when we give our opinion about the amount of pocket money that should be taken with you.

Prices
To give you an idea of the cost of individual excursions we mention here some reference amounts based on the price level of November 2011. These amounts are subject to change and are only meant to give you an indication. Because the entrance fees often change, they are not included in the tour price (unless explicitly stated).

Package excursions
€ 149

The price of the tour package is based on participation of at least 6 participants. Entrance fees are exclusive (unless explicitly stated). In this trip excursion package tours include the following:

Bonito - Snorkelling Rio Sucuri

The calcareous rocks in the region of Bonito have led to the emergence of some crystal clear streams. The Rio Sucuri is surrounded by dense jungle. You travel in canoes, paddling upstream. With some luck you can spot all kinds of animals, from toucans to tapirs. Once you reach a large expanse you'll leave the canoe with the guide and go armed with a snorkel and 'wetsuit' into the water. The water is shallow, so you can easily go anywhere. Let yourself be carried by the slow-flowing water and thereby enter a special world. Above the water are jungle vines, and under the water is a spectacle of colourful fish. A unique experience!

Paraty - Schooner tour of tropical islands

Full day excursion by schooner along the many tropical islands in the Bay of Paraty. It is regularly docked at bounty beaches where you can sunbathe, swim and snorkell. The crew will offer you a refreshing caipirinha, and you can have lunch (optional) on one of the islands.

Rio de Janeiro - City Tour

Accompanied by a local English speaking guide, visit Rio's literal highlights. You start with a trip by cable car to the top of the Pao de Acucar, ''Sugarloaf mountain''. This 400 meter peak is located at the mouth of the bay. The view over the city and the beaches of Copacabana and Flamengo is breathtaking. You also visit the historic city center of Rio and then drive to the Corcovado, the Christ statue. The statue recently joined the select group of the ''7 wonders of the world'' and is both literally and figuratively the highlight of Rio de Janeiro.

Included: lunch and entrance tickets to Sugarloaf mountain.

Singular excursions

Below is a list of locally offered excursions. The prices are based on the participation of a minimum of 6 participants, and based on a price in Brazilian reals (due to exchange rates so the price can sometimes change). Entrance fees are exclusive (unless explicitly stated).

Rio de Janeiro - Favela Tour

Take a look at the hills where the less fortunate people of the city of Rio de Janeiro live. They provide the very best views of Rio! The slums are avoided by the rich inhabitants of the city, they are afraid and want to know nothing about them. The residents of poor neighbourhoods are very pleased that you visit. Accompanied by a local English speaking guide you enter the hills (by minibus) and you will stop at some places to observe the lives of the inhabitants there. It is a very good tour to partake in, you will feel respect for the locals and when joining this trip, part of the proceeds will be used for projects in local schools.
